It is important to understand the meaning behind the criteria Speaker Type. This criteria allows you to select Mono, Stereo or Subwoofer speakers. A mono speaker is one that is able to play one of the two audio channels in a stereo configuration, or one of the five channels in a 5.1 surround sound system. You will therefore need to buy a pair of mono speakers to configure a stereo music system, or five mono speakers to configure a 5.1 surround sound system. A stereo speaker is able to produce stereo sound from a single speaker enclosure because it has two built-in tweeters. A stereo speaker is ideal where you have limited space for two separate mono speakers. However, they are unsuitable for use in a home cinema.
